The Happy Chemist

Clive arrived in Wainuiomata in 1986 fresh out of pharmacy school.  The first time he ever came over the hill was the day of his job interview with Graeme and Rae McDonald in the then Mall Pharmacy.   From day one he was hooked as he fell in love with the town, the community, and the landscape.

In 1997 Clive bought Norfolk St Pharmacy, and in 2000 merged his business with Ian Saxby’s Pharmacy in Queen St.  The business moved into the current site in 2002.

Clive was part of the Unichem brand from 2003 until 2015, and now has decided to become an independent pharmacy owner again.  This will enable him to connect closer with the Wainuiomata community and focus on doing what he loves:

  • Making a positive difference in the community.
  • Helping people feel better.
  • Working to make Wainuiomata the healthiest and happiest town in New Zealand.

The service and innovation level at Clive's Chemist has an excellent reputation, in which Clive aims to continue setting the benchmark for pharmacy in New Zealand.

Over the years they have been recognised in a number of awards:

  • NZ Top Twenty Business Customer Service Award
  • Hutt Valley Retailer of the Year (received twice)
  • Hutt Valley Leadership Award
  • NZ Pharmacy of the Year (received twice)
  • Finalist Wellington Top Shop (five times)
  • Unichem Pharmacy of Year

    What makes Clive tick?

That's easy.  Clive wants to make a positive difference in people's lives.  Either through the pharmacy, his work in the community or the organisations he is a part of.

He loves to have fun and never misses an opportunity for a laugh or a good time.

Clive values good mates, “having good friends is one of the best things in his world”.

But the most important thing to Clive is his family.  Clive thinks that time spent with family is one of the most precious things life offers us.
